These are part of the Niaux cave paintings in the French Pyrenees. This is the Niaux cave's Salon Noir. The paintings include ibexes (a type of mountain goat, upper centre) and bisons. The paintings were done by Cro-Magnon man, an early European culture of modern humans (Homo sapiens sapiens), using black charcoal and manganese. The paintings may have had religious and artistic significance.
