Milton Humason. Portrait of the American astronomer Milton L. Humason (1891-1972). He was employed as a mule transport driver during the construction of Mount Wilson Observatory in California, USA. Humason became the observatory's janitor in 1917 and worked his way up to become a staff astronomer. His work with Hubble led to the acceptance of the theory of the expanding universe by the 1930s.
