Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease, caused by the production of antibodies against the body's own thyroid gland. This renders the thyroid unable to produce hormones leading to hypothyroidism. Treatment consists of thyroid hormone replacement drugs. Magnification unknown.
