Urticaria is a transient condition characterised by itchy swell- ings and flushing of the skin. The rash is most commonly found on the limbs and trunk, but may appear anywhere on the body. Urticaria often results from an allergic reaction to food, for example strawberries, shellfish, milk or eggs; or to a drug such as penicillin or aspirin. Urticaria is treated by applying a soothing lotion to the skin, and by using anti-histamines or corticoster- oid (anti-inflammatory) drugs.
