The pain does not come from the brain itself, which contains no sensory nerves, but from the meninges around the brain and the blood vessels and muscles of the scalp. Common causes of headache include hangover, a noisy environment, irregular meals, poor posture and prolonged travel. Rarer causes include high blood pressure or hypertension, and a brain tumour.
