The best time to harvest the eggs is then determined by measuring levels of hormones and the size of the egg- bearing follicles. A trans-vaginal scanner (not seen) is used to view the position of the eggs in the patient's abdomen. A needle is then inserted through the vagina and cervix, and a suction device is used to collect the eggs into the needle.
