The majority of cells are in interphase, between divisions. A cell at upper centre is in metaphase. The chromosomes (pink) are lined up along the centre of the cell. At upper right a cell is in anaphase, the two identical chromatids that make up each chromosome have been separated to opposite poles of the cell. At bottom left and top, the cells are near the end of cytokinesis (cellular division), the formation of two daughter cells. Microtubules, which are part of the cell's cytoskeleton, are yellow.
