A small proportion of babies are born in this orientation. The legs are usually extending straight up towards the head. Breech deliveries are more complex than normal because the baby's bottom does not push its way through the birth canal as efficiently as the head. An incision in the perineum may be performed to ease the baby's passage. Alternatively, a caesarean section may be used.
