Lunar topography. Coloured topographic map of the western hemisphere of the Moon. In this image the right hand side is Earth-facing, whilst the left is on the Moon's far side. The border between blue and green represents the mean radius of the Moon, with dark blue and magenta the lowest areas and yellow and red the highest. The image clearly shows the difference between the near side with its oceans and the mountainous far side. Just below centre is the Mare Orientale impact basin (blue circle), and at bottom left is the deep SP- Aitken Basin. The data for this image were gathered by the Clementine satellite in 1994.
