Ikejima, Nagasaki
Cats are seen at the entrance of a local store and restaurant for the people still living on former the coal mining island Ikejima, off the coast of Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan, December 10, 2013. Ikejima, similar to the famous industrial heritage "Gunkanjima" (Battleship island), once flourished with coal mining and employed thousands of people. Most of the apartment buildings, which housed formerly employed coal miners, are now empty after the coal mining facility closed in 2001. The decaying houses and machineries, covered with vegetations are attracting fans of abandoned or ruined townscapes, so-called "Haikyo-fans" in Japanese. (Photo by Yuriko Nakao/AFLO)
