On June 5, the Japanese archipelago experienced the hottest weather of the year, with temperatures soaring to over 30 degrees Celsius in many parts of the country. The heat caused Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) to record a maximum power output of 34.25 million kilowatts at 3:00 p.m., the highest ever recorded in June. The total of nine electric power companies nationwide reached 9.735 million kilowatts, breaking the record set in June of last year and a record high. Near Odaiba, photographed on June 5, 1987.
