Dehydration of copper(II) sulphate
Dehydration of copper(II) sulphate crystals. Hydrated copper(II) sulphate crystals have a characteristic blue colour. In the crystal structure, each copper sulphate molecule is associated with five water molecules. This is known as the water of crystallisation. When heated gently, the water is driven off, leaving a white amorphous powder - anhydrous copper(II) sulphate.
