Flavobacterium meningo- septicum bacteria
False colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a colony of Flavobacterium meningosepticum, a species of bacteria that normally inhabits soil and water which has also been found in hospital environments, where it may cause meningitis in premature infants and adults with immune deficiencies. In hospitals, the species has been isolated from sinks, disinfectants and respiratory and urinary tract equipment. Infections due to F. meningosepticum are treated with antibiotics such as erythromycin, chloramphenicol, rifampicin and cotrimoxazole. Magnification: X 5000 at 35mm size.
