Technological progress, conceptual image
Technological progress from prehistory to the present, conceptual image. The progress of human technology is shown by a human footprint in the sand (right), representing early humans, and a bootprint on the Moon's surface (left), representing the Moon landings. The first modern humans evolved in Africa some 400,000 years ago. The first Moon landing by humans took place on 20 July 1969. The images are separated by a wave running up the beach to wipe away the footprint. The bootprint on the Moon, which is not subject to erosion, may last for millions of years.
