Plant cell organelles, light micrograph
Plant cell organelles, confocal light micrograph. 3D composite reconstruction showing two types of cell organelles: endoplasmic reticulum (ER, green) and Golgi bodies (red). Fluorescent dyes have been used to highlight the cell structures and proteins. Endoplasmic reticulum is a membranous cell organelle responsible for functions such as protein production, storage and transportation. Golgi bodies are cell organelles used to modify and store macromolecules such as lipids (fats) and proteins. These cells are from a tobacco plant (Nicotiana tabacum).
