Toe amputation in diabetes, X-ray
Toe amputation in diabetes. Frontal X-ray of the left foot of a 69-year-old patient with diabetes who has had the big toe (lower left) amputated due to circulatory problems. Diabetics often develop ulcers on the feet due to inadequate blood supply or neuropathy (nerve damage) caused by the disease. In severe cases, the ulcers can become gangrenous necessitating removal of the affected region.
