Standard Model bag
A popular item of merchandising supplied by CERN is this shopping bag which carries the 'Standard Model equation' describing the current understanding of fundamental forces and particles. In the equation the top line describes the forces of electricity, magnetism and both strong and weak nuclear forces,. How these forces act on quarks and leptons, the fundamental particles of matter, is seen in the second line. CERN, with the Large Hadron Collider, is experimenting to verify the predictions of the third and fourth lines which describe how the Higgs boson gives mass to these particles, enabled by the processes of the fourth line of the equation.
