Foetus, illustration. Between the 8th week of pregnancy and birth, the human being developing in the uterus is called a foetus. It undergoes significant growth, especially during the second trimester, growing from 3 to nearly 20 inches. From the 12th week, its kidneys function and it starts to urinate in the amniotic fluid. Its cardiovascular system develops until the 3rd month and its digestive system until the 7th month.
