Helicase enzyme stage of DNA replication
Helicase enzyme stage of DNA replication, molecular model. Helicases (red and white) are enzymes that carry out several roles, primarily separating the two strands of the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) double helix, by breaking the hydrogen bonds between nucleotide bases. The DNA strand is shown here in yellow and pink. This is during the DNA replication process. For a sequence of images showing the enzymes separating the strands, see images C038/4144 to C038/4146.
