Glacier surface
Crevassed glacier surface. Aerial view of the Hubbard Glacier surface, Alaska, USA. The deep crevasses seen here are created when planes of ice within the glacier move past each other, causing shear forces that cause trenches to develop. The Hubbard is a vast expanse of ice, 120 kilometres long, covering an area of around 3500 square kilometres.
