Fluorescent techniques are very sensitive and only a small amount of powder needs to be used. However, powder which fluoresces at a different wavelength to the background should always be used. Latent fingerprints are more likely to be detected by fluorescent techniques compared to traditional methods, and fluorescence can be used to find prints from a wider variety of sources. Fluorescent techniques increase the amount of evidence uncovered, and the quality of evidence collected and photographed.
