Taking a temperature
Taking a temperature. 8-year-old boy with a mercury thermometer in his mouth. His body temperature can be read using the scale running along the thermometer. A body temperature above 37 degrees Celsius would indicate that the boy has a fever (pyrexia), although temperatures vary with time and from person to person. Most fevers are caused by bacterial or viral infections. Symptoms include shivering, sweating, hot skin and thirst.
