Inside the skull the cerebrum of the brain (red) has many folds, divided into two hemispheres responsible for intelligent and conscious activities. Beneath it is the cerebellum (orange) which maintains posture, balance and co- ordinates movement. Bones of the skull surround and protect the brain and muscles are seen in the neck. MRI scanning creates \slice\" images through the body using radio waves and a powerful magnetic field; the technique is used to determine the health of the brain."
