Early Earth, computer artwork
Early Earth. Computer artwork of rocky debris passing close to the Earth. This could represent an early Earth, soon after it formed. The Earth formed around 4.6 billion years ago, along with the other inner planets of the solar system. These rocky inner planets formed during a chaotic period when protoplanets formed by gathering up surrounding material by gravitational attraction. Eventually, four planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars) survived, along with numerous asteroids.
