Seyfert's sextet galaxy cluster
Seyfert's sextet galaxy cluster, Hubble Space Telescope image. Despite the name, only four galaxies are members of the group. The small spiral galaxy at centre is around five times more distant than the others, and lies in the same field of view by chance. The clump of stars at lower right is not a galaxy in its own right, but is a tail of stars thrown off the galaxy to its left. The gravitational interaction of the other four galaxies has distorted their structures. It is likely that the four galaxies will converge to form one large galaxy in several million years.
