Future human. Artwork by artist Nemo Ramjet depicting a period in the distant future when humans have colonised new planets and evolved into different life forms. The life form in this image has an organism attached to its head. The co-existence of two different species that mutually benefit one another is known as mutualism. In this case, the smaller organism offers its humanoid host access to a higher level of intelligence while the host becomes a convenient place to live. Over several generations the two species become entirely dependent on one another for survival.
