This unit is being used to handle flood waters from the river used to supply the water for a waterworks. The circular basin is 33 metres in diameter and can handle a flow of 2 cubic metres per second. Using flow control technologies, the pre-separator slows the flow of the water, allowing some of the solid matter to settle out. It then passes the water on to the next stage of the process that produces clean drinking water. This unit is handling water from the River Po, and is operated by SMAT, the metropolitan water company of Turin, Italy.
