Leopard seal
Leopard seal (Hydrurga leptonyx) on an ice floe. The head-up posture is characteristic of this solitary seal species. Although leopard seals prey on penguins, they have a varied diet which consists mostly of krill. Leopard seals are found in open and coastal waters around Antarctica, as well as New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and South America. Photographed at Harker Glacier, Cumberland East Bay, South Georgia Island.
