Tapir swimming
South America tapir (Tapirus terrestris) swimming with a bird on its snout. This is a herbivorous mammal that is found near rivers in the tropical rainforests of South America. It is an excellent swimmer. It often takes waterbaths and mudbaths to rid itself of parasites, a function that the bird may also be performing. A tapir browses a wide range of plants, mostly eating seedlings and shoots. It reaches over 2 metres in length. Photographed in Reid Park Zoo, Tucson, Arizona, USA.
