Ebola virus budding from cell, SEM
Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of ebola virus particles (purple) both budding from and attached to the surface of infected cells (green). This virus is the cause of ebola virus disease in humans and nonhuman primates. It is a severe and often fatal disease with symptoms including fever, fatigue, muscle aches, vomiting, diarrhoea and haemorrhaging (internal bleeding).
