Cerivastatin drug, molecular model. This is a statin drug, used to treat the high cholesterol levels that cause heart and vascular disease. It was withdrawn by the manufacturer in 2001 due to a high occurrence of fatal rhabdomyolysis, the rapid breakdown (lysis) of skeletal muscle.
