Retroreflector reflecting light, illustration
Illustration of a retroreflector reflecting a ray of light back parallel to its initial path. A beam of purple light strikes a corner mirror (two planes at 90 degrees) and is reflected back parallel to the incident ray. A corner cube (three planes all at 90 degrees to each other) does this in three dimensions. Corner cube reflectors are used on cars and bikes to shine brightly under headlights., by RUSSELL KIGHTLEY/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY
