Barrel jellyfish
Barrel jellyfish (Rhizostoma pulmo). This jellyfish is found in the open sea and coastal waters of the Atlantic Ocean. It can reach sizes of over 60 centimetres across. A jellyfish's prey of fish, plankton or crustaceans is brought to its mouth at the centre of the underside of the bell, using its tentacles. Jellyfish are free-swimming aquatic invertebrates that are related to the corals and anemones. Jellyfish swim by contractions of their bell. Photographed in the Mediterranean Sea.
