Cape ground squirrel
Cape ground squirrel (Xerus inauris) feeding on plant material. This rodent lives in arid open areas in southern Africa, where it digs an extensive burrow system. It feeds on grass, roots, seeds, bulbs and termites, using its bushy tail as a sunshade. Photographed in the Kalahari regions of South Africa and Botswana. Photo by DR P.
