Non-metallic elements. Clockwise from top left, they are sulphur (S), bromine (Br), phosphorus (P), iodine (I) & carbon (C). Non- metals are poor conductors of both heat & electricity. Sulphur is found in hot springs and volcanoes. Bromine is the only liquid non-metal, it used as a flameproofing agent. Phosphorus is used in safety matches and pyrotechnics. Iodine is added to table salt to counteract deficiency as well as being used in photography. Carbon is used as a fuel (coal) and lubricant (graphite).
