Lipids consist of glycerol and fatty acids. They serve as reservoirs for potential chemical energy and as sources of short carbon chains for the synthesis of membranes and other lipid containing components or excretory products. The aspherical shape, above & right of the lipid and containing a dark spot, is the cell's nucleus.
