Dandelion. View of flowers and leaves of a dandelion (Taraxacum officinale). This common plant is found in all temperate regions, and has been used medicinally for over 1000 years. Preparations have a mild laxative action, and are used in cases of chronic constipation. Infusions are said to be of help in treating liver and kidney disorders, and stimulate the flow of bile. The roots, when crushed and dried, can be brewed into a substitute for coffee. Juices from the stems and roots have been applied to warts to effect their removal. The young leaves are also a popular ingredient in salads.
