Flowers of Couch-grass (Agropyron repens). Also known as Twitch, this is a perennial species native to the UK. Clearly visible here are the feathery white styles and yellow anthers. These are well adapted to wind-blown pollination. A.repens grows in large tufts, and is common on waste ground and arable land. It is viewed as a persistent weed. It is nearly impossible to eradicate as each fragment of rhizome is capable of forming a new plant. Individual plants of Couch-grass may grow to between 30cm and 120cm in length. Flowering takes place from June to August. Magnification x1.4 at 35mm size.
