Pollen from the anthers above can be seen lying on the bottom of the flower. The anthers surround the carpel (yellow), the ovule-containing part of the flower, which, if fertilized, grows to form the seed pod. P. rhoeas is a medium sized annual plant which grows in arable fields and disturbed ground, and flowers between June and August.
