Central Europe, from space. Satellite view of Central Europe. The colours approximate to natural tones, and indicate the type of surface cover. At the centre of the frame is Germany, largely arable land with interspersed forests. Just south of this are the snow-covered Alps in Austria and Switzerland. To the north are Denmark, the Baltic Sea and part of Scandinavia. The right half of the frame covers the countries of Eastern Europe, whilst the far right edge is located over parts of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). At the bottom are Italy and the Mediterranean Sea. The data for this image were gathered by NOAA weather satellites.
