Lava fault. Fractured crust of lava caused by volcanic faulting. The cooled lava has been faulted by the pressure of magma within the magma chamber beneath the volcanic summit. Magma is hot, molten rock below the earth's surface that is sometimes erupted as lava. An ama'u fern, Sadleria sp., can be seen growing at lower left.
