Human genome research. Genethon scientist uses a light microscope & video monitor to examine lymphoblastoid cell lines (white blood cell lines), recovered from families whose members suffer from the various inherited diseases, including muscular dystrophy. Genethon is a large molecular genetics laboratory near Paris, dedicated to mapping the human genome (the DNA of every chromosome) & locate the genes responsible for a number of inherited diseases. Genethon was created jointly through funding from the French Association for Muscular Dystrophy (AFM) raised in a Telethon appeal in 1989 & the Centre for Study of Human Polymorphisms (CEPH).
