. Arachnophobia. Face of a woman with closed eyes, seen through a spider web on which a spider is perched. Thoughts of the spider may have been suddenly evoked by the woman, or she may be having a nightmare whilst asleep. Arachnophobia is a fear of, and aversion (phobia) to, spiders. Seeing or imagining the feared animal usually triggers intense anxiety and sometimes a panic attack. Animal phobias, also known as zoophobias, typically start in childhood. Treatment is usually not required unless the feared animal is so common that it is not easily avoided. The most effective treatment is behaviour therapy to try to overcome this fear. MODEL RELEASED
