Muscular dystrophy. Play group therapy for child sufferers of muscular dystrophy. Here, children sit in specially adapted wheelchairs in a room of toys and adult supervision. Apart from the mental stimulation of these games, hand-eye coordination and arm muscle movements serve as therapy. Muscular dystrophy is an inherited muscle disorder of unknown cause in which there is slow but progressive degeneration of muscle fibres. Many forms occur and no curative treatment is known. Affected children should keep as active as possible to maintain use of muscles not yet dystrophic. Photographed at 'Association Francais de Myopathie (AFM)' in France.
