Muscular dystrophy. Support centre for child sufferers of muscular dystrophy. Here, children use specially adapted wheelchairs for movement, to compliment various therapies like walking, and to support the body. The girl in the foreground wears a neck brace and is strapped securely into her chair. Muscular dystrophy is an inherited muscle disorder of unknown cause in which there is slow but progressive degeneration of muscle fibres. Many forms occur and no curative treatment is known. Affected children should keep as active as possible to maintain use of muscles not yet dystrophic. Photographed at 'Association Francais de Myopathie (AFM)' in France.
