The drugs stimulate the ovaries to produce more than one follicle at a time. The follicles each contain an egg cell, which are selected and removed under a microscope (upper left). They are then fertilised by fresh or frozen sperm. If this is successful, the resulting embryo is implanted into the woman's uterus. Several eggs are taken from each woman to increase the chances of success.
