A large red nucleus fills most of the cell, and condensing chromatin nuclear material is seen yellow and green within the nucleus. In further stages, the cell will become smaller, lose its nucleus and contain progressively larger amounts of haemoglobin. This is the pigment which allows the red blood cells to hold and transport oxygen around the body. Erythrocyte formation is called erythropoie sis. Magnification x6800 at 6x6cm size.
