T-cell (Date taken unknown)
False-colour scanning electron micrograph of a normal T-lymphocyte, a white blood cell. It is from a culture cell line known as H9. Characteristic of normal T-lymphocytes are the long microvilli projecting from the cell surface. T-lymphocytes are susceptible to infection by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), the causative agent of AIDS. There are three major divisions of white blood cells: granulocytes, lymphocytes & monocytes. Together they protect the body against the invasion of foreign substances & help in antibody production.
