The prostate is a large gland that surrounds the neck of the bladder in men and produces most of the fluid in semen. It consists of glandular tissue embedded in a matrix of fibromuscular cells (orange and black). At upper centre (blue) is the prostatic urethra. This is a tube through which urine is expelled from the bladder. It is also where the fluids that make up semen also pass through to the penis. The urethra has a wall of smooth muscle (blue).
