This is a European Space Agency (ESA) spacecraft designed to study Mars. It comprises an orbiter and the British Beagle 2 lander (upper right). The orbiter will study Mars' atmosphere and search for water on its surface, as well as using spectroscopy to study the composition of its surface. The Beagle 2 lander will look for evidence of life on the surface by studying soil samples. The Mars Express mission is due to be launched at the beginning of June 2003, arriving at Mars in December 2003.
